Marvel has finally chosen the director of “Captain America 4”, a film announced 15 months ago. The studio hired Nigerian-American director Julius Onah, best known for directing the 2018 sci-fi “The Cloverfield Paradox”.
The script is in the hands of Malcolm Spellman, creator of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, in collaboration with Dalan Musson, who also worked on the Disney + series.
Not surprisingly, the plot of “Captain America 4” will be a consequence of the events of the series, when the Falcon took on the shield and title of the original Captain America.
Anthony Mackie will star in the film, reprising the role of Sam Wilson, his character from the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), who was once the Falcon and is currently the new Captain America.
So far, no other cast members have been confirmed. Furthermore, there is no set date for the start of filming or a date for the premiere.
Onah was born in Markurdi, Nigeria, and has lived around the world thanks to the career of his diplomat father, before settling in the United States. He made more than 10 short films between 2004 and 2012 and his undergraduate work at New York University Film School attracted Spike Lee as an executive producer.
The shorts – and a clip from DJ Avicii – caught the attention of director JJ Abrams, who hired him to direct “The Cloverfield Paradox”. But the criticisms destroyed the production, which came as a surprise on Netflix.
Proving that the film’s failure was more about writing than directing, Onah devoted himself to his next film, the independent drama “Luce” (2019), which received three Spirit Award nominations (the Oscar for independent film. ), including best directing.
