The finale of the fourth season of “The Boys” revealed the fate of Soldier Boy, the character of Jensen Ackles. He obviously he is a spoiler.
Defeated in the general clash against the heroes of the series, which aired this Friday (8/7) on Amazon’s Prime Video platform, Soldier Boy was once again drugged and imprisoned in a containment camera. But despite the final tone of his latest appearance, Eric Kripke, creator and showrunner of the attraction, confirmed that he still has plans for the character. So he didn’t die in the explosion that Vought News reported as the end of him.
Kripke and the cast of the series spoke to the Brazilian press during their visit to Sao Paulo this week, but many of the conversations were not revealed before the final episode was released this Friday.
In particular regarding Soldier Boy, he revealed: “There is a very specific reason why we left the door open for this character. For now, this chess piece is on the sidelines, but certainly there will be no end to the series without the return of Soldier Boy “.
Jensen Ackles suggested that he would like to return.
At the press conference, the actor said he was the one who asked for the role in the series. “I was already in a relationship with Eric and we were talking about Season 3. So I said I was going to be unemployed soon and I asked for a role on the show,” he revealed.
Having previously worked with Eric Kripke on “Supernatural”, also created by the producer, he wanted to know if there was anything he could do on “The Boys”. Initially, the showrunner intended to choose an older actor, but realized that Ackles would make a perfect Soldier Boy.
“I convinced Eric to give me the role, they originally planned to use an older actor,” confirmed the actor. “I had a chance to try it and I got on these roller coasters that are ‘The Boys’,” he concluded.
The producer, however, does not make any predictions for Ackles’ return. Nor if / when Dominique McElligott, who plays Maeve, will she return after losing her powers in the explosion that knocked out Soldier Boy. The same thing she said in Brazil about Soldier Boy, she told Maeve’s US site TVLine this Friday: “The series won’t end without seeing Maeve.”
And when will the series end? Kripke doesn’t dare say it. After stating that “Supernatural” would only last five seasons, he says he will never risk predicting the future again.
“When I did ‘Supernatural’ I said ‘Supernatural’ was going to have five seasons. So I’m honored to be the most wrong producer in television history in terms of how long their show will last,” said Kripke, recalling that “Supernatural” it lasted 15 years.
“Since then, I’ve learned not to commit to the number of seasons a show should have. I’m not going to make any predictions anymore.”
The biggest hit of Prime Video, Amazon’s streaming platform, “The Boys” has already renewed for a 4th season, won an animated spin-off, “Diabolical”, and is preparing a juvenile spin-off centered around on university students of superheroes, which will see the participation of the Brazilian Marco Pigossi (“Invisible City”).
