IRM and Maestro win the last Regional Goalball

The Southern Goalball Regional 2024 ended this Saturday (20), in Curitiba, with two local teams on the top step of the podium: in the men’s category, IRM-PR (Instituto Roberto Miranda) repeated the feat of the last editions and expanded its successes with the seventh trophy, the fifth with this name. In the grand final, Acesa-SC (Associação Santa Catarina de Esportes Adaptados) won by 14 to 4. In the women’s category, Maestro-PR (Projeto Maestro da Bola) made history by beating IRM-PR in the final by 10 to 7. and winning the gold medal.

CONTROVERSIES

As the final day of competition began, the battle for bronze was intense. In the women’s category, Acesa-SC returned to the podium after eight years by beating Adevifoz-PR 14-4. In the men’s category, Acergs-RS beat Amacap-PR 13-9, securing third place.

This was the last of the five regionals of this sport organized by the CBDV (Brazilian Confederation of Sports for the Blind), after having passed through Goiânia, Bahia, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Goalball will take a break until the Paralympic Games in Paris, which will take place from August 28 to September 8. After the Games there will be the Brazilian Championship: Serie B from November 10 to 16, followed by Serie A from November 16 to 22.

“First of all I want to thank my team, for the work that has been done, consolidating our efforts more and more. The goal now is to arrive strong at the Brazilian Nationals and play for the title. Last year we came close, finishing third. Now we are going stronger”, emphasized the winger Dénis, one of the managers of the Instituto Roberto Miranda team.

In the men’s category, Leonardo Jasmin, from Acergs-RS, won the Top Scorer trophy with 43 goals. Danielly Veras and Daniel Machado, representing IRM-PR, received the award for the best athletes Under 23.
