If the virus spreads, just go to the village villa and tell each other scary stories DecameronAn Italian collection of one hundred short stories written by Boccaccio – his full name in French is Jean Boccaccio or in Italian: Giovanni Boccaccio – between 1349 and 1353. In it, a group of nobles and their servants go to an Italian estate. In the 14th century, the campaign to endure the bubonic plague spread in the country. The young Florentines, seven young girls and three young boys, took the opportunity to tell each other about a hundred stories, about ten people, over ten days – stories that often had an erotic or crude note.
After the first film adaptation by Italian Pier Paolo Pasolini in 1971, the story is now set to make a comeback, this time on Netflix and in an eight-episode series. The historical drama stars Tony Hale (Arrested Development), Zosia Mamet (Girls), Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education) and Sawyers-Monica Jackson (The Flash).
Although Boccaccio’s stories themselves were very popular, they were also repeatedly censored and even banned. According to the British Library, the Church has made a special exception to the work’s depiction of clergy. The plague era, in which the work takes place, is also considered one of the darkest in human history. According to the Washington Post, this disease has killed about 25 million people.
