Did The Simpsons predict what happened in the US this week?

The election of Donald Trump, the Titan submarine incident, the takeover of 20th Century Fox by Disney, or even Neymar’s injury and Germany’s victory in the World Cup… the most famous animated series on the small screen in its 34 years of existence. He predicted many political, economic or sports events that actually happened a few years later.

Indeed, we can no longer count the number of episodes in which The Simpsons, by taking some liberties in anticipating mere witticisms, have been able to foresee real historical phenomena.

Of the thousands of jokes written throughout the show, it seems only logical that a few hit the nail on the head every now and then. But those coincidences haven’t stopped some fans from having fun imagining that The Simpsons writers could actually see the future.

Most recently, when the President of the United States, Joe Biden, withdrew his candidacy for the upcoming American presidential election in favor of his Vice President, Kamala Harris, some viewers mentioned a very specific episode of the series created by Matt Groening.

Indeed, in The Simpsons in 30 years (Season 11, Episode 17, aired in 2000), baby Lisa Simpson became the first woman to enter the White House, replacing a certain Donald Trump. But what particularly worried internet users was her outfit, namely a pearl necklace and a purple jacket: clothes that reminded some of those worn by Kamala Harris, which can also be seen in the montage posted below.

It didn’t take long for some fans to figure out that this episode of The Simpsons was already anticipating a possible vice presidential pick 24 years in advance, even though the vote was only four and a half months away.

Kamala Harris, officially nominated as the Democratic candidate in the upcoming US presidential elections, will face Donald Trump on November 5.
