Does the union between Seasmoke and Addam confirm Laenor Velaryon’s death? The theory is explained

In the first season of “House of the Dragon” we met Laenor Velaryon, the son of the “Sea Serpent” and Princess Rhaenys. In his youth he married Rhaenyra Targaryen, but they could not have children together because he liked boys. For years, the couple remains together and raises three children, who turn out to be the sons of Harwin Strong, a knight of King’s Landing.

Is Laenor Velaryon confirmed dead in Addam and Bruma’s union?

Given Rhaenyra and Daemon’s desire to marry when she is already an adult, they plan to kill Laenor, which was considered successful, but she did not actually die and ended up escaping to an uncertain fate by faking her death. Since then, the show has left the audience wondering if at this point in the story he is still alive or not.

In episode 6 of the second season of ‘House of the Dragon’, we saw how the Mist dragon refused to have Ser Steffon Darklyn as a rider and, after burning him alive, flew off to find himself. Thus, the winged creature corners Adam the Hal, a young “dragonseed” who is the bastard son of Corlys Velaryon, with the intention of becoming its owner.

While many were excited by this scene, others wondered if Adam’s union with Bruma meant that Laenor is dead, and there are various theories about this.

The most popular theory is that, although the series doesn’t say it outright, Laenor is dead and somehow her dragon knows because she sought a new connection. According to Valyrian beliefs, these animals can only be led by another person when their former owner dies.

Another popular idea is that Laenor is still alive, but being so far away, his dragon cannot perceive him and thinks he is dead. As years go by without him being seen again, this forces him to find a new rider.

So the Seasmoke and Addam union would also assume that Laenor will never appear in the show again, even though it’s something many wanted to see.

How does Laenor Velaryon die in the book ‘Fire and Blood’?

In the book “Fire and Blood” it is explained that Laenor is killed by Ser Qarl Correy, who is described as her “friend and companion”, allowing Rhaenyra to remarry her uncle, Daemon Targaryen.

It is also mentioned that Corlys Velaryon is trying to retrieve his body, and the merchants inform him that Qarl fled after stabbing Laenor, injuring anyone who stood in his way. The ‘Sea Serpent’ then offers a reward of ten thousand golden dragons to whoever finds it.
