Paris 2024: Discover everything about this weekend’s equestrian agenda with the Brazilians in action

The Brazilians will take to the field this weekend on the Complete Circuit in individual and team events.

Equestrianism is coming back for another edition of the Olympics, being one of the most traditional disciplines in all of history, having been present for the first time in 1900 at the Olympic Games. The sport was excluded from only the next two Olympics, returning in 1912. Since then it has been present in all subsequent editions.

Equestrianism consists of three different events, which would be the Eventing Competition (CCE), Dressage and Jumping, all three categories divided into individuals and teams, and both men and women participate.

HEELS

Jumping is the most popular mode, as it is in this test that the horse and rider must jump over obstacles within a time limit and are punished for each obstacle knocked down.

TRAINING

In dressage, horse and rider must perform a series of artistic movements to the sound of music, and judges must evaluate the ease and fluidity with which the group moves along the course.

EVENTUAL RIDING COMPETITION

The CCE can essentially be considered an equestrian triathlon, as it is a combination of the other two events, with the addition of the Cross-country, which consists of a long course with natural obstacles, and tests the endurance and experience of horses and riders.

BRAZIL IN EQUATION

Brazil has a tradition in equestrianism, having first participated in 1948 and since then only missing out in 1976 and 1980. They won their first medal in the sport in 1996, in team jumping, and in the next edition, in 2000, Brazil repeated the feat. And in 2004, the greatest glory came to Rodrigo Pessoa, the biggest name in Brazilian equestrianism and present in the team bronze medals. He won the first and only gold medal in individual jumping for Brazil in equestrianism. Rodrigo Pessoa will represent Brazil once again in individual and team diving.

WEEKEND ORDER

In the early hours of Saturday (27), at 4:30 (Brasilia time), the first equestrian tests will take place at the Palace of Versailles, in the CCE dressage, both individual and team, and we will have Brazilians in action to start dreaming of medals, such as Carlos Parro, Rafael Losano, Ruy Fonseca and Marcio Jorge, current team bronze medalists at the Pan American Games. The favorite for the CCE individual gold is the British Rosalind Canter and, consequently, Great Britain is the favorite for the CCE team gold.

The next day, again early in the morning, at 5:30 (Brasilia time), the CCE cross-country race will take place, with the same competitors as the previous day.
