Zico Speaks Out After Paris Robbery


Team Brazil’s ambassador at the Olympics, the former player lost around 500,000 euros (R$3 million) after being robbed




This Friday (26), Zico spoke on social media about the attack he suffered on the eve of the opening of the Paris Olympic Games. The Flamengo idol wanted to reassure fans about his condition and confirmed his presence at the event scheduled for 2 pm (Brasilia time) on the Sena River.

The robbery took place last Thursday, July 25, while Zico was in a taxi in Paris. It is estimated that the robbers took about 500 thousand euros (equivalent to 3 million reals) including diamonds and cash: 2 thousand euros and 2 thousand dollars.

Zico’s statement on social media

As mentioned, Zico used his personal profile on social media to report the incident. The Ambassador of Team Brazil at the Paris Olympics thanked him for all the affection and support received in the last hours.

“As widely reported in the press, I had an accident yesterday, July 25, at the beginning of my journey as ambassador of Team Brasil. I want to reassure everyone, emphasizing that Sandra and I [sua esposa] We are doing well and, despite the material losses, the most important thing is still our health and our life. We are recovering from the shock, counting on the support of the authorities and the IOC, and hoping to be able to save our personal assets”, and continued:

“We will be present at the opening of the Olympic Games, always honoring our country and hoping that our athletes will have a great Olympics. I thank you for all the messages of support and solidarity. A kiss and a special hug to my family and the fans”, concluded Galinho.

Robbery in Paris

According to the French newspaper ‘Le Parisien’, Zico and his wife were with a suitcase in the back seat of a taxi when the robbers approached. One of the criminals distracted the former player’s attention, while the other took the opportunity to act and take the suitcase with his personal effects. Among them, a Rolex watch, diamonds and cash.

The investigation, according to initial information, is being conducted by the French BRB (Brigade de repression du banditism). The two robbers have not yet been identified.
