Boy Meets World Stars reveals the real reason why Cory’s sister Morgan changed actress mid-show

For this day, the boy meets the world holds a special place in the hearts of many TV fans as one of the best sitcoms of the 90s. In the midst of love, some may even have questions about the creative choices behind the scenes. One of the biggest is arguably the decision to rephrase Morgan Matthews’ character while the show was in progress. Cast changes (or absences) weren’t incredibly unusual in this era of TGIF sitcoms, as evidenced by Family mattersJudy Winslow, although the BMW Sure, he got out of the left field. Now, years after the startling change, the show’s stars have revealed the real reason why the show changed its cast.

the old the boy meets the world in a recent episode of the rewatch podcast Pod meets the world, hosted by Rider Strong alumni Danielle Fishel and Will Friedle. During the episode, the band met William Russ, who played the patriarch of the Matthews family, Alan. The group discussed the first season episode “On the Fence” and during the chat revealed that series creator Michael Jacobs spent the first six episodes matching characters at random. Friedle said Eric and his little sister Morgan were a potential brother-sister pair in season one. and she recalled that OG Morgan actress Lily Nicksay was “a good girl” who she “liked making jokes”.

Danielle Fishel eventually moved from Lily Nicksay to Lindsay Ridgeway after the second season. She asked William Russ for her opinion of her on the notable change and, according to the father of TV, Nicksay was apparently unhappy at the time:

I think there were growth problems. I’m not sure she was very happy at the time and DDUser Michael Jacobs, to his credit, could see it. He decided it was in his best interest to make her try something else, go somewhere else.

Good for Michael Jacobs for having the means to experience the young actress’s discomfort and for allowing her to pursue other opportunities. The cast went on to say that young Mathews was away for a while before her sudden disappearance became too much to ignore. The series finally dealt with Morgan’s absence and reappearance in season three, when Ridgeway took on the character. Speaking of the original cast member’s departure, Danielle Fishel was sensitive to her situation, as she understands the pressure that comes with a show’s success:

We were talking about pressure. You really have to want it. It’s a lot on your shoulders and she was 6 years old. I think she eventually got to a point where she was like, ‘This isn’t as funny as you all think.

It goes without saying that being an actor is difficult, but things can be particularly difficult for child stars. In the end, it’s probably for the best that Lily Nicksay left early and didn’t survive the rest of the series. And despite her early departure, the franchise clearly still has a place in its heartthrob years. This was highlighted by Nicksay that she reprized the role of Morgan (along with Lindsay Ridgeway) for the big cast reunion of the revival series. the girl meets the world.

the cast of the boy meets the world It’s been a bit open lately. Rider Strong revealed that he had a splinter on his shoulder when it came to being associated with a sitcom, which caused him to avoid his television fame and Los Angeles during production breaks. Danielle Fishel also talked about her last years on the TGIF show being “tainted” because she wanted the show to end. Yet, despite that, she and the cast have finished great after all seven seasons, which are available to stream with a Disney + subscription.

There are still some character-related mysteries to solve, such as why characters like Stuart Minkus and Mr. Turner were abruptly removed. But at least I’m glad I solved Morgan Matthews’ riddle.
