Rayssa Leal has become the youngest athlete to win medals at multiple Olympic Games. But despite being one of the world’s biggest sports stars, the 16-year-old skateboarder still fulfills her social obligations like any other teenager. After winning bronze at Paris-2024, she spoke about returning to school when she returns to Brazil.
“I’m going to study. Wow, why did you remind me?”, Rayssa replied to a question from one of the journalists in the interview area about what the athlete would do when she returned home, immediately after the podium. “Of course I’ll celebrate, but classes have resumed. August, right?”, she added, who attends high school at a private school in Imperatriz, Maranhão, her hometown.
In addition to the bronze in the French capital, won by Rayssa after landing the last maneuver, she has a silver in her resume won in Tokyo-2020, when she was 13. The young woman, who has changed a lot since then, also spoke about the differences between the two Olympic editions.
“The color (of the medal) has changed a lot. Actually, everything has changed. In the first year alone, I had already grown 10 cm. I understood the weight of the Olympics. We come here with a different mentality and a different focus. It’s also a different goal. Everyone on the track wanted to have fun, but they also wanted the gold medal. For me, it was no different, so we ended up demanding a little more, but everything worked out well,” he said.
