Let no one disrespect this beautiful journey, says Chavista leader after fraud accusations
CARACAS – The dictator Nicolas Maduro he spoke a few minutes after the results declared by the CNE. In front of the Miraflores Palacewhere he had previously called on his supporters to mobilize, he asked that the results be respected.
“We have to respect this Constitution, we have to respect the referee and let no one try to disrespect this beautiful journey,” he said.
“I am a man of peace. I am a man of dialogue. I have never, ever thought of holding a prominent public position. What has always guided me has been the spirit of struggle for Venezuela,” he continued.
And he praised his predecessor, Hugo Chávez, who died in 2013. “My only inspiration was being Hugo Chávez’s soldier.”
He said he had already received calls from leaders in Nicaragua, Cuba and Bolivia to congratulate him on the results. “His call was of admiration for the courage of these people.”
