Story of “Under the Waters of the Seine”
In the North Pacific, a team of conservationists, including Sophia Assalas, fight to save aquatic life on a plastic waste island. Things get complicated when they encounter Lilith, a massive shark trapped beneath the waste island.
The animal proves to be very dangerous, causing the brutal death of Sophia’s entire team. Three years later, she is still tormented by the loss and discovers that Lilith is closer to Paris than she thought as she follows her to the waters of the Seine.
Conflicts and endings explained
The conflict escalates when local authorities become involved, reluctant to cancel the triathlon despite the obvious dangers. Sophia then joins forces with another activist, Mika, and Adil, a river police officer, in an effort to confront the threat of Lilith.
However, plans to tranquilize the animal end in tragedy, when Mika tries to demonstrate Lilith’s docile nature and is devoured by the shark, in a scene of carnage that ends with the loss of twelve lives.
Eventually, Sophia performs an autopsy that reveals Lilith’s ability to reproduce asexually, which further complicates the situation. Paris is unprepared for the start of the triathlon and ends up flooded, dominated by sea water.
Soon after, Lilith and her shark brood take control of the waters, conquering all waterways, starting with London, followed by New York, Bangkok, Venice, Tokyo and then the entire world, symbolizing the new beginning of environmental terror and retribution.
