Are Daemon and Rhaenyra bisexual? The books explain who their partners are

Just like in “Game of Thrones,” “House of the Dragon” depicts love and sexual relationships between people of the same sex, such as Laenor Velaryon and Joffrey Lonmouth, but the ones you might not know are those of Daemon and Rhaenyra. . We explain to you.

Who was Rhaenyra’s lover in ‘Blood and Fire’?

For a long time, everyone assumed that Rhaenyra was straight since she was only seen dating men in the series. However, that idea fell apart when in chapter 6, titled “The Plebs,” we saw the princess share a passionate kiss with Mysaria, who has become her biggest advisor.

This shocked viewers, but readers of ‘Fuego y Sangre’ did not find it strange, since in the book it is revealed that the princess was bisexual. While in George RR Martin’s original story, Rhaenyra is not Mysaria’s mate, she is shown to be intimately familiar with her cousin Laena Velaryon.

According to the accounts, the two spent a huge amount of time together despite living on different islands and being married to Laenor and Daemon respectively. Their dragons left nests of eggs together, reflecting their own relationship. Another fact that subtly confirms this is that Rhaenyra stayed at Laena’s bedside for three days after her death, thus showing that they were more than just good friends.

“House of the Dragon” left out this focus on the couple because there was no time to depict them and they chose to skip it, making another change from the book to the TV show. Many fans pointed out that the series wanted to replace this same-sex relationship with his childhood friend Alicent Hightower, but being on opposite sides of the Targaryen civil war, the romance was destined to fail.

This rumor attracted attention because the actress who played the young Alicent, Emily Carey, explained in an interview for the portal “Business Insider” that when reading the script, she got the impression that her character was in love with Rhaenyra.

“I think every woman could remember the best friend she had at 14 and it’s a relationship and a closeness like no other. You cross the line between platonic and romantic. It was something I understood immediately when I read the script as a queer woman … It’s something we knew 100% And if you read it on the screen, it was intentional,” was her statement.

Daemon was going to become bisexual in the “House of the Dragon” series.

On the other hand, the book doesn’t state that Daemon is bisexual, but it’s a fact that the series tried to establish, although it wasn’t ultimately captured in the chapters. It turns out that a scene was recorded for the first season where Daemon’s sexuality would be made clear, but it was never incorporated into the final version.

It’s about the time Daemon and Laena have a fancy dinner at Pentos. As a servant approaches, the Demon looks at him lustfully and apparently holds his hand while whispering in his ear, which would confirm his taste in men.

The reason behind not showing Daemon as an LGBTQ person remains unknown, but surely fans would have accepted this change due to their love for the character.
