There was hope of at least trying to tie the game when the score was 51 to 44 for the Germans and Leo Mendl, in addition to suffering a foul, scored a three-pointer. The action ended up yielding five points, with Mendl missing the free throw and Lucas Dias rebounding to reduce the gap on the scoreboard to 51 to 49, but the reaction stopped there and the period ended with a 60 to 51 advantage for the Europeans.
