Eletrobras said Wednesday that “there is no effective negotiation” for the sale of its stake in Sao Paulo energy company Emae to businessman Nelson Tanure, according to a statement from the power company to the market.
The daily newspaper O Globo reported on Sunday that Eletrobras “is in preliminary negotiations to sell its 39% stake” in Emae for around 700 million reais.
“We inform you that there are no actual negotiations underway, and there have only been contacts with the potential future controller of the company in which Eletrobras holds a minority stake,” Eletrobras said in response to a request for clarification from the State Stock Exchange and Exchange Commission to the company.
“There is therefore no need to speak of any relevant concrete act or fact to report,” Eletrobras said in its response to the CVM.
The Phoenix equity fund, which has Tanure as a key investor, won the auction for the privatization of Emae in April, with a bid of 1.04 billion reais.
