5 Unconventional Films About Astronauts

Lunar (2009)

Sam Bell is a talented astronaut who has been given a mission that many would kill for: to spend three years working on the Moon. His journey to Earth’s natural satellite includes analyzing lunar soil, a regimented diet, and an exercise routine to stay healthy. At his side, the artificial intelligence Gerty keeps him company, and his family occasionally checks in for a video call.

After almost 3 years away from Earth, he is eager to complete his work and return home, but an unusual thing happens: his ship reports that something strange has landed on the Moon, near him.

When he comes into contact with the unknown object, he realizes that it is an astronaut who has exactly the same face as him, as if he were a clone. Shaken, Sam tries to understand what is happening and if his life is in danger. But will he like the answers once he finds them?

The cast includes names like Sam Rockwell, Kevin Spacey, Kaya Scodelario, Dominique McElligott, Benedict Wong and others. Those interested can watch the film on Prime Video and Apple TV.

The crew assumed Mark was dead after being hit, so they didn’t hesitate to leave. But he survived and desperately wants out of there. There’s just one problem: he doesn’t have enough resources (food and water) and he doesn’t know if he can wait for another ship to land on Mars to rescue him.

The cast includes names like Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Kristen Wiig and more. The film can be watched on Disney+.

One Million Kilometers (2023)

José Hernández grew up helping his family on the farm and when he looked up at the sky he always wondered about the stars and other celestial bodies. From then on, he decided that he would do everything in his power to become someone worthy of seeing the stars in a way that other people could not.

For 30 years he prepared and studied engineering to leave Mexico, embark on a journey to the United States and join the NASA program. His goal? Become an astronaut. And even after more than 10 denials, he continued to follow his dream until he actually achieved it, even though he had to face challenges and prejudices at work, the difficulties of life as a father and much more.
