A 43-year-old man was sentenced by the Court of Porto Alegre to 13 years and 6 months in prison for attempting to kill his ex-girlfriend in the southern part of the city. The session, presided over by Judge Cristiane Busatto Zardo, of the 4th Jury Court, began on Thursday morning (15) and continued until the early hours of Friday (16).

The defendant, held in the state penitentiary of Canoas (Pecan), was convicted of attempted qualified murder, with aggravating circumstances of bad motive, dissimulation, cruel means and femicide. The defense can still appeal the sentence.

According to the complaint filed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the crime occurred on December 8, 2019, around 3:00 a.m., in the neighborhood of Hípica. That morning, the accused followed his ex-girlfriend, forced her into his car, and attacked her with punches and slaps, as well as attempting to suffocate her.
