The Supreme Court decided to suspend social media accounts that contained hate speech and misinformation, which X interpreted as censorship. “If we had agreed with @alexandre, we would not have been able to explain our actions without embarrassing ourselves,” Musk said on the social network.

“Despite our numerous appeals to the Federal Supreme Court having gone unheard, the Brazilian public not being informed of these orders, and our Brazilian team having no responsibility or control over the blocking of content on our platform, Moraes has chosen to threaten our team in Brazil instead of complying with the law or due legal procedures,” explained the X account in charge of legal communications for the company.

Will I lose my X account?

No. Despite the closure of its offices in Brazil, users will be able to continue to access the platform normally, both through the application and through the web browser, the company assured.

What changes in X for Brazilians?

The lack of representation in Brazil, however, is expected to impact some of the social network’s activities, such as content moderation, communication with the press and the government, and user service.

Why did X leave Brazil?

Musk decided to close the company’s operations in the country after becoming the target of an investigation by the digital militia, where he is accused, along with X, of promoting hate speech and disinformation on social networks.

In April of this year, Moraes had requested the suspension of accounts that propagated this type of content, but Musk did not respect the decision because he interpreted it as censorship by the minister. Since then, the billionaire has attacked Moraes at X, also defending the minister’s exit from the STF.
