As reported bySilvio Santos, one of Brazil’s most iconic television presenters, died this Saturday (17 years old), at the age of 93, due to complications from bronchopneumonia. The information was confirmed by the Albert Einstein Hospital, in São Paulo, where he was admitted.
Stage name Senor Abravanel, Silvio Santos, owner of the Brazilian Television System (SBT), remained active in TV since the 1960s, expanding his business and building a real business empire over the years – in addition to having worked in music, radio and even bold intentions in politics (he launched himself as a candidate for the presidency of the Republic in 1989, but was prevented from running).
As expected, this fascinating and extraordinary trajectory has inspired some dramatic productions.
The biopic of the presenter, starring Rodrigo Faro as the presenter, hits theaters on September 5. The work goes behind the scenes of Silvio’s struggle to protect his family and preserve his legacy, while he faces one of the most difficult moments of his life during a kidnapping in 2001.
The documentary, which explores the presenter’s journey through the eyes of family, friends and colleagues, can be watched on YouTube.
Available on Disney+, the series tells the story of the moment Silvio is diagnosed with a serious illness that threatens to end his career in front of the cameras.
Starring José Rubens Chachá, Mariano Mattos Martins and Guilherme Reis as Silvio Santos at different stages of his life (from youth to adulthood), the series, divided into two seasons, explores the trajectory of one of Brazil’s most iconic figures.
