After winning an unprecedented fourth title last season, Manchester City showed all their strength in the debut of the 2024/25 English championship. After all, they went to London to face the strong Chelsea, who transformed themselves to be once again protagonists in the Premier League. And they won 2-0, Haaland, of course, left his mark, opening the scoring in the first half. In the final Kocavic (formerly Chelsea) spreads out.
Chelsea started by pressing hard and attacking. All to try to impose themselves against City, who in turn were dangerous twice in the plays of Savinho. The Brazilian, who was at Girona last season, showed ease with good passes. However, after 15 minutes, City began to dominate. So they took the lead in the 18th minute. Haaland received the ball in the box, shot and put a small touch in the net.
The teams continue to search for goals. City have had three chances and in two of them goalkeeper Sánchez has performed a miracle. But Chelsea are ahead and almost equalize with an error by Ederson. The goalkeeper drops an easy ball at Jackson’s feet. Fortunately, at the beginning of the game, the home team player was offside.
Kovacic extends for City
In the second half, Chelsea fans tried to push their team, which was very close to Ederson’s goal. City looked for Haaland, who was well marked and had few chances. The hosts put pressure, the City defense tried to take it as best they could, but when they had the ball they were objective. In addition, they were counting on Chelsea’s bad luck to expand. In the 40th minute, right-back Gusto blocked a ball from his defense and it fell on Kovacic’s chest in midfield. He dominated, overtook two rivals in the race and kicked. Sànchez touched the ball, but it went in. Kovacic, former Chelsea player, did not celebrate. But his goal sealed the favorite’s fifth victory.
