Does it still need to be said? Emily in Paris is much more than just a series about the life of an American woman in the French capital. It’s a real invitation to discover the hidden treasures of Paris and beyond, thanks to a carefully selected selection of filming locations.
Andrew Fleming, executive producer and director of the series, pays special attention: “This series is truly a tour of Paris“, he explains Tudum. “We don’t pretend; Each scene is shot on location, providing an authenticity that enriches the viewing experience.“
Place de l’Estrapade: Emile’s heart in Paris
The Place de l’Estrapade is one of the first places that viewers are introduced to Emile in Paris. Located near the Panthéon, this small square perfectly embodies Parisian charm with its cobblestones, small cafes and laid-back atmosphere.
This is where Emily’s (Lily Collins) apartment is located, as well as Gabriel’s (Lucas Bravo) restaurant L’Esprit de Gigi. For fans of the series, this square has become a place of pilgrimage, where they can walk in the very streets where their favorite characters live.
Baccarat Gallery-Museum: at the masked ball!
This season, the masked ball in Episode 3 is the biggest set in the first episode and required a lot of coordination. “This is the episode that most stimulated my creativity“, explains Andrew Fleming.
“There were so many aspects to consider: the idea that it was in black and white, that it was masked, that we were filming in the Baccarat museum – which is honestly one of the most beautiful places in Paris – and that there were some dance numbers. There are several visual effects and elements of magical realism.”
But the highlights of the show, he says, are the key events that take place at the party that drive the story forward, namely the love story between Emily and Gabrielle, who finally steps up and Alfie, who is a sad witness. “It was a great sequence and it was very, very satisfying to pull it off in the editing room.“
Roland Garros Stadium: Game, Set and Attack
Emile sometimes leaves the glamorous streets of Paris for more unexpected places, such as the Stade Roland Garros. Well known for hosting the famous tennis tournament, this legendary venue of sport and elegance offers an interesting contrast to the series’ usual settings.
In Season 4, Emily and her colleagues travel to the French Open, where they watch the matches while dealing with professional challenges and complicated love lives. “They’re on center court at Roland Garros and it’s epic,” confides Lucien Lavisconte, who plays Alfie, as his character and Emily’s relationship ends.
Giverny: The Impressionist Touch
The setting of Giverny, with its flower gardens by Claude Monet, is unreal because it radiates so much. That postcard image didn’t escape this season, not even for a brief moment when Emily finally found Camilla (Camille Razat), sheltered away from contact in this bucolic Normandy, after abruptly ending her marriage to Gabriel and announcing her pregnancy.
Pont Neuf: the timeless beauty of Paris
Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge in Paris, is another iconic filming location this season. It is an ideal place for a romantic sunset. Or at midnight with the Eiffel Tower lighting up the city in the background, like here, when Emily and Gabriel finally let their hearts speak.
Les Puces de Saint-Ouen: a meeting place for hipsters
The Saint-Ouen flea market has been the meeting place for hunters of all stripes every weekend for years. And of course, Camille and Sofia have a shopping session at the famous flea market, a must-see for design and vintage lovers when it comes to creating their new love nest. Run by passionate antique dealers and second-hand dealers, this market is the perfect place for Camille, an expert when it comes to art.
The adventure in Italy continues
If Paris remains at the heart of the series, this season also takes Emily beyond the borders of France. “This season goes even further. We shot in Megeve, in the French Alps, where Camille’s family ski chalet is located. We are at Roland Garros. We are in Chantilly, at the Polo Grounds. We are in Rome. We are in an Italian village.“
Indeed, the second part of season 4 takes us to Italy, where Emily explores Rome and its historical wonders. “It was a challenge, but fun, sneaking into Rome and seeing a lot of places in a very short amount of timeFleming says.
