Despite the draw advantage, Furacão won in Argentina, beating Belgrano and securing the ranking
In the second leg of the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana, Atlético visited Belgrano, this Thursday (22), at the Mário Kempes stadium, in Córdoba. After the 2-1 victory in the first leg, Furacão would have a place in the quarter-finals in the event of a draw. Despite having a player less for much of the match, Atlético managed to prevail, winning 2-0 and advancing to the stage.
FIRST HALF:
Needing to get the result, Belgrano chased Atlético from the first minutes, but failed to create any real dangerous chances to threaten goalkeeper Léo Linck. Little by little, Furacão came into the game and had the first big chance with Zapelli shooting from outside the area and goalkeeper Chicco saved.
The Argentine team’s response came in the 19th minute, when Barinaga crossed for Chavarría with his head, but the ball went out. The situation for Atlético became a little more difficult at 20:00, when Esquivel shared with Quignon and was sent off directly for hitting the Belgrano athlete’s ankle.
To rebuild the team, coach Martin Varini sent Fernando onto the field, who replaced Zapelli. With a numerical advantage, Belgrano launched an attack and had two good chances in the first half. In the first Jara sent the ball wide and in the second Quignon shot high. In this way the first half was not a goalless draw.
SECOND HALF:
In the second half, Belgrano returned with two new players in attack: Nicolás Fernández and Reyna in place of Chavarría and Rolón. In the 4th minute Barinaga crossed, but the ball went into the goal and Léo Linck saved with some difficulty.
Despite being numerically disadvantaged, Atletico manages to win a free kick in attack and opens the scoring after nine minutes. Thiago Heleno shoots from the defensive field, defender Troilo fails to cut in and the ball ends up with Mastriani. When the goalkeeper comes out, the attacker strikes and scores: Atletico 1-0.
The answer came shortly after, when Velázquez crossed and the ball hit Cuello’s arm. The referee awarded a penalty. However, after the VAR review, the penalty was cancelled and the referee awarded a foul to the Argentine team, as the touch occurred outside the area. Belgrano grew, encouraged by the fans and in the 14th minute, after a cross into the area, Jara headed and Léo Linck blocked the danger.
In the 16th minute, Metilli had a chance from midfield, but the ball went high and out. Furacão then made another change: Gabriel replaced Fernandinho and Di Yorio replaced Mastriani. In Belgrano, Suárez came on to replace Velázquez. At the end of the match, Atletico spread out. Canobbio passed to Christian, who served Di Yorio in the area. The striker struck and sealed the score: Atletico 2-0.
