At the end of 2022, a very serious rating came and recognized Jeanne Dielman 23, Quai Du Commerce, 1080 Brussels as the best film in the history of cinema. 1,600 critics voted on the feature film at the request of the BFI’s (British Film Institute) Sight and Sound magazine, and it was this 1976 feature film that came out on top, much to the surprise of many. This rating is updated only once in 10 years.
The best film in the history of cinema or 3 hours 18 of deep boredom? Why revise this divisive work?
Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du commerce, 1080 Brussels is a work unlike any other, surrounded by a unique aura. This is a film that saw very little on its release (31,000 admissions in 1976) and became very difficult to see legally (due to rights issues) for many years, giving it a very rare edge as a hidden treasure. …
After Jeanne Dielman, about ten other very rare works to see
This autumn, a year after the release of Jeanne Diehlman, ten other works that have become very rare, by the same director, Chantal Akerman, will be released on the big screen, thanks to a retrospective organized by the Capricci distributor in France. .

Almost a full box will arrive by Chantal Ackerman
Alongside this double cycle of releases, a box set of 43 films will be released, with many previously unreleased on video and all offered on Blu-ray for the first time. This box will combine “Almost all of his film and television work is available“, Caprich elaborates. More than 13 hours of bonus features are announced: interviews and archival footage, documentaries about the director, cast and crew testimonials, film introductions… Released on October 1, 2024.
Finally, note the installation of a major retrospective on Chantal Akerman at the Jeu de Paume in Paris. It will be visible from September 28 to January 19, 2025.
Why did you discover the Chantal Akerman exhibition?
Before the Jeu de Paume, the exhibition was visible in Brussels until July 21 and we were able to visit it. This is an expanded version of the exhibition that will come to Paris next. It covers 1000 m2 and dozens of rooms.
You can discover brand new Super 8 film that has been restored for exhibition. This is the very film he made to enter his film school. The exhibition includes working documents, scripts, handwritten notes, photographs and other press files.
An ideal opportunity to delve into the work of the filmmaker. It’s also just an opportunity for the younger generation to get to know him.
Pay attention to the book edition of the exhibition (co-published by Bozar Books – JDP / Lannoo), as well as the written work of Chantal Akerman in 3 volumes, and finally the last edition of Capricci’s book dedicated to the dolphin. Seyrig, DELPHINE SEYRIG, IN CONSTRUCTIONS by Jean-Marc Lalanne.
