The director promises maximum action in the rest of this interview. He also teases “probably the biggest action scene he’s ever created.”

FYI, Gladiator 2 is expected to hit theaters on November 13, 2024. Actor Paul Mescall replaces Russell Crowe in this second episode of Gladiator. He will play Lucius, son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen in Gladiator) and nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix).
The boy was played by Spencer Trait Clark (Unbreakable) in the first film. Paul Mescal is known for his role as Connell Waldron in the TV series “Normal People” and was nominated for the 2023 Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Aftersun.
To play this character, 28-year-old Paul Mescal had to train hard to gain muscle: “Every time someone asks me if I’ve started bodybuilding, I say, ‘What do you mean you can’t see?’laughed the actor, who spoke to Variety as part of the Independent Spirit Awards.
A new hero
Here’s what we know about the plot so far: We follow the story of Lucius, son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen in Gladiator ) and nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). Lucius is greatly impressed by Maxime’s journey and must follow in his footsteps.
So we can bet that this new hero will bravely fight in the arena and promises epic battle scenes. Note that the mother-daughter relationship between Lucius and Lucilla must be of great importance to the story.
Along with Paul Mescal, Ridley Scott invited the choice. Connie Nielsen will reprise her role as Lucilla. The legendary Denzel Washington will be there, as well as The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal.
Joseph Quinn, who was revealed thanks to his role as Eddie Manson in Stranger Things, also joined the adventure of Gladiator 2. 85-year-old Derek Jacobi will return to the Gracchus costume 24 years after the first part.
Gladiator 2 will hit theaters on November 13, 2024.
