The Brazilian player has lost space and has not been registered by the Catalan team for the 2024/25 season of the Spanish championship
Young Brazilian striker Vitor Roque is unlikely to play for Barcelona this season. After lengthy negotiations, the player’s likely destination is another Spanish club, Real Betis. The Brazilian is already in Seville and will undergo a medical before signing a contract.
According to the Spanish press, the loan lasts one year, with the possibility of renewal for another year, that is, until 2026. Barcelona has also set a redemption value of 25 million euros (about 155 million reais). 80% of the player’s rights.
Sold by Atletico Paranense, Vitor Roque arrived at Barcelona in January of this year, but had little space at the club. There are only 16 games and two goals. Out of the club’s plans, the player has not been registered in La Liga for the 2024/25 season.
At the end of last year, the Brazilian suffered an injury at Atletico, which hindered his growth at Barcelona. In addition to the injury, Vitor Roque did not satisfy the club’s then coach, Xavi. With the departure of the Spaniard and the arrival of the German Hansi Flick, it was expected that the striker would have more minutes on the pitch, which did not happen.
Another factor that weighed in the decision to deal with Vitor Roque is the need to reduce wage bills and loosen the financial fair play applied to Barcelona. The player’s departure frees up space for the club to register athletes for competitions.
Initially, Barcelona’s preference was to loan the Brazilian to a club outside Spain and, therefore, not a direct rival in the domestic league. Porto and Sporting, both Portuguese, showed interest, but Vitor Roque’s desire to remain in Spain was an important factor in the negotiations with Real Betis.
