Vale announced on Monday that the maximum emergency level at the Sul Superior mine tailings dam, in Barão de Cocais (MG), has been reduced following work to improve safety conditions, according to a statement released to the market.
The company said the dam had been at the maximum criticality level 3 since 2019 and that since then it has been working on the process of de-characterizing the structure, removing 800 thousand cubic meters of mining waste from the equipment. The volume corresponds to approximately 12% of the total stored by the dam.
