The movie “Thor: Love and Thunder” ends with a post-credits message warning that “Thor will be back”.
The announcement isn’t exactly a spoiler, but it came as a surprise to director Taika Waititi and the hero’s star Chris Hemsworth.
Waititi recently told Insider that he had no idea Marvel was adding this disclaimer at the end of the film. “This was also a surprise to me. I’m not kidding,” revealed the director. “I saw it in the cinema and I thought, ‘Oh shit. Really?’ Even Chris would say “What?”. But of course Thor will be back. He’s the best character. I mean, I might be a little biased, but he’s the most fun to watch. “
Despite the unexpected announcement, the director said he would love to return to direct his third “Thor” as long as Chris Hemsworth was also involved.
“I would definitely do another one, but only if Chris did too,” Waititi said. “But it should be something surprising and unexpected for me to want to do that. What would the new approach be like? I’d like something unexpected, like a 5 million dollar movie with no fights, just Thor on the go. Like ‘Nebraska’.”
Now it’s spoiler. “Thor: Love and Thunder” has potential hooking up for a fifth film, thanks to the introduction of Hercules (Brett Goldstein, from “Ted Lasso”) in the credits, tasked with taking revenge on the God of Thunder.
Everything points to an inevitable clash between Thor and Hercules, which reworks the classic brawls of Marvel’s golden age in the comics.
Waititi’s next film will be a “Star Wars” production for Disney and Lucasfilm.
