Director Sam Taylor-Johnson is set to direct a biopic about the late singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse.
Behind the project is Studiocanal, entitled black back, which supports the Winehouse estate. Matt Greenhalgh wrote the script, the exact plot details are still unknown. The search for Winehouse’s on-screen cast is set to begin soon.
The Grammy-winning singer is known for his second album. black back, which included the hits “Rehab” and “You Know I’m No Good”, among others. The singer, who struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, died of alcohol poisoning at age 27.
Studiocanal is producing with Alison Owen and Debra Hayward, along with Tracy Seaward.
Winehouse’s career and death were the subject of Asif Kapadia’s documentary amywhich won the Oscar for Best Documentary at the 2016 Oscars. There was also a BBC documentary in 2021. return of amywhich marked the tenth anniversary of the signatory’s death.
