The figure of the serial killer is as fascinating as it is repulsive. How can a person do so much horror? While many researchers are still debating this topic, one thing is for sure that the 7th art will never stop talking about it.
Proof with the latest project of the American platform Peacock. The latter is preparing a series centered on John Wayne Gacy, nicknamed “The Killer Clown” because he went so far as to visit sick children in the hospital…
After the success of Dahmer on Netflix last year (in which he also appears briefly), Peacock felt the opportunity was right. And if the quality is there, then the audience will undoubtedly flock to it. It must be said that John Wayne Gacy is one of the worst criminals the United States has seen in recent years. The man, who is now dead, is responsible for the deaths of 33 people in the 1970s, whom he subjected to various abuses before killing them.
If he is so famous, it is for the cruelty that he practiced on his victims, for his fascination with corpses (he is a necrophiliac) and for his career, which interested psychiatrists (his father was particularly ill-treated and was raped by a neighbor at the age of 9).
In any case, crime has captured the imagination of many screenwriters in recent years, for example, in the series American Horror Story or in Andre Muschietti’s film Ca, in which Pennywise wears the costume of a killer clown.
Who should we play in the series?
Actor Michael Chernus, recently seen in Spider-Man Homecoming (aka Tinkerer, the evil mad scientist), has been cast as the serial killer. It has recently been joined by three new talents:
Gabriel Luna (The Last of Us), James Badge Dale (13 Hours), Michael Angarano (Will&Grace), Chris Sullivan (This Is Us) and Marin Ireland (Umbrella Academy). The first two will star two cops who investigate a series of disappearances that rock Chicago in the early 70s before connecting with John Wayne Gacy.
Titled Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy, the Peacock series promises “Recognizing Guy’s twisted life by unraveling the heartbreaking stories of his victims, most of them gay – all while exploring the grief, guilt and trauma of their families and friends.”
The French broadcaster has not been announced yet.
