After Cátia Oliveira and Joyce Oliveira secured the first table tennis medal by reaching the WD5 class semifinals, Danielle Rauen and Luiz Filipe Manara had the chance to win the second podium for the country. But in the quarterfinals of the XD17 mixed doubles tournament, they beat the favorites Piotr Grudzien and Karolina Pek, from Poland, 2-0, but went out with an upset. The competition’s No. 1 seeds won with fractions of 8/11, 8/11, 13/11, 11/4 and 11/9.
With this result, Piotr Grudzien and Karolina Pek advanced to face the Chinese Peng Weinan and Xiong Guiyan in the semifinals. The Asian pair defeated the Croatian Borna Zohil and Mirjana Lucic with the scores of 11/9, 11/7 and 11/9.

Balance marked the duel between Danielle Rauen and Luiz Manara against the Poles Piotr Grudzien and Karolina Pek. Despite the hard-fought match, the Brazilians managed to take an advantage in the first sets and won both by 11/8.
In the third, Piotr Grudzien and Karolina Pek reacted. It was the most balanced part of the match. The Brazilians also had the opportunity to close the match, but the Poles not only managed to avoid the opponent’s victory but also won the set by 13/11.

Despite the loss, Brazil can still win a medal in the XD17 mixed doubles tournament. Bruna Alexandre and Paulo Salmin will face Ukrainians Viktor Didukh and Iryna Shynkarona in the quarterfinals at 6 am.
If they win, Bruna Alexandre and Paula Salmin will advance to the semi-finals where they will face the winner of the clash between the Chinese Zhao Shuai and Mao Jingdian and the English Joshua Stacey and Bly Twomey.
