Minister Alexandre de Moraes has ordered the suspension of Platform X if the company does not appoint a legal representative for its operations in Brazil
The President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) stated it Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter), must comply with the orders of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and cannot offend the Brazilian authorities. The petitsta participated in an interview with the radio MaisPB, in João Pessoa, this Friday (30).
“Every citizen, from any part of the world, who has an investment in Brazil is subject to the Brazilian Constitution and Brazilian laws. Therefore, if the Supreme Court has decided that the citizen respects certain things, either he complies or he will have to take another action”, he said.
“Just because a guy has a lot of money doesn’t mean he can be disrespectful. This citizen is an American citizen, he’s not a citizen of the world. He can’t keep insulting presidents, insulting congressmen, insulting the Senate, insulting the House, insulting the Supreme Court. What does he think he is?”he added.
Lula also mentioned Brazil’s sovereignty. “This country is not a country that has a society with a bastard complex.“, he continued.”This man has to accept the rules of this country, and if this country has made a decision through the Supreme Court, he has to abide by them. If it’s worth it to me, it’s worth it to him.”.
X suspended in Brazil
Last Wednesday (28), Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, published an order for X to appoint a legal representative in Brazil. In August, the platform announced the closure of its headquarters in the country, claiming that it did not agree with the reversal of accounts and the fines applied.
The 24-hour deadline to comply with the subpoena has now expired. OX has taken a stand on the platform and said it expects the block in Brazil “simply because we did not comply with his illegal orders to censor his political opponents. Unlike other social media and technology platforms, we will not follow illegal orders in secret.”they wrote.
The expectation now is that the network will be suspended. If Moraes issues a decision on blocking X in Brazil, the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) will have to inform telecom operators of the decision.
