The Fifty Shades of Gray director will make the Amy Winehouse film

Studiocanal has hired director Sam Taylor-Johnson (“Fifty Shades of Gray”) to shoot the biopic of singer Amy Winehouse, who died in 2011 after drinking large amounts of alcohol at the age of 27.

The film will be titled “Back to Black”, the same name as the artist’s second album. The album threw her in 2006 with hits like “Rehab” and the title track itself, calling attention to her beautiful voice and extravagant hairstyles, but also to her personal life marked by drug and alcohol addiction and stormy relationship with her boyfriend, Blake Fielder-Civil.

The production is scripted by Matt Greenhalgh, who has written two musical biopic films: “Control: The Ian Curtis Story” (2007), about the band’s singer Joy Division, and “The Boy from Liverpool” (2009), about youth. by John Lennon.

“Liverpool Boy” was also directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.

“Back to Black” will be produced with the support of the Winehouse estate.

In addition to this film, there is another ongoing production on the artist’s life. As of yet untitled, this project has been written and will be directed by Kirsten Sheridan (“The Sound of the Heart”), and has already announced her star as Amy Winehouse: Noomi Rapace (“Prometheus”).
