Meet Maxime Dominguez, Vasco’s new Swiss reinforcement

The 28-year-old Swiss has signed a contract with Vasco and is expected in Rio this Monday; Discover the numbers, details and how the new Vasco reinforcement plays.

On the last day of the Brazilian transfer window, Vasco signed yet another reinforcement. It is the Swiss attacking midfielder Maxime Dominguez, 28 years old, who played for Gil Vicente, a club in the Portuguese first division. The player, who signed a four-year contract with Cruz-Maltino, is expected to arrive in Rio de Janeiro this Monday (02).

Vasco will pay 2 million euros (R$12.4 million) for 100% of the rights of the Swiss player. The first information on the deal was released by ge. But ultimately the question that Vasco fans want an answer to is: who is Maxime Dominguez? The ENM provides details and how the attacking midfielder plays.

Raised by Servette FC, a historic club in Switzerland, Maxime Dominguez played for the team until 2016, when he was sold to FC Zürich and then loaned to FC Lausanne-Sport, also in Switzerland. At Lausanne-Sport, the midfielder established himself as an important player, gaining visibility and prominence.

After a good spell with the team, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists in 67 games, Dominguez continued for another season in Swiss football, playing for Neuchâtel Xamax FCS. In July 2023, the midfielder was signed by Gil Vicente for 600 thousand euros.

In the Swiss’s first season (2023/24) with the Portuguese club, he scored six goals and five assists in 37 games. Gil Vicente finished 12th in this season’s championship.

An important point to highlight about Maxime Dominguez is the fact that the midfielder played for his national team from the Under 16s to the Under 20s, wearing the number 10 jersey for Switzerland on several occasions. However, the player has never been called up to the main team.

How does Maxime Dominguez play?

At 28 years old, Maxime Dominguez stands out for his tactical intelligence and technical ability. With experience in several European leagues, he has developed a versatile and effective style of play, being able to play in multiple positions in midfield and also in attack, on the wings.

Dominguez is the typical “skillful midfielder”, with the ability to maintain possession under pressure and distribute passes with his good vision of the game. He also has a good sense of positioning, which allows him to appear in dangerous areas to finish or provide assists.

The mid-range shot is the player’s “weapon”, capable of surprising the opposing goalkeeper. In defense, Dominguez also stands out for his commitment in marking. Although his main role is to create plays, he does not hesitate to help recover the ball, proving to be an important part of the tactical scheme.

At Vasco, the Swiss can add a lot to the team, both by organising the game and creating goal-scoring opportunities, being a substitute on a par with Payet, or even a starter, capable of linking the midfield with the attack and giving consistency to the Cruzmaltino team.

Dominguez could also represent an alternative on the right flank for Vasco in the absence of Adson, who is injured and unlikely to return in 2024.
