In a hearing on Rádio Eldorado, Ricardo Nunes did not respond to the impeachment of Alexandre de Moraes and downplayed Pablo Marçal’s presence at the Sete de Setembro event in Paulista. The mayor, who is seeking re-election, downplayed the support of a councilor from his base for his opponent
Saturday at Eldorado Radio On Monday 2, the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), candidate for re-election, did not answer whether he is in favor or not of the impeachment of the Minister of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) Alessandro de Moraes. The dismissal of the minister is one of the items on the agenda of the Sete de Setembro in Avenida Paulista, where Nunes will be present.
“I will not defend the impeachment (of the STF ministers). Those who will have to deal with the impeachment are the senators”, said the mayor of the capital São Paulo, specifying that next Saturday’s march, in turn, is a “demonstration in defense of freedom” and the “democratic rule of law”.
The re-election candidate discussed the possibility offered by former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), one of the organizers of the event, to businessman and influencer Pablo Marçal (PRTB) to participate in the march. For Ricardo Nunes, it is not an invitation from the former president to Marçal, but rather a “fair” decision to make the demonstration “non-partisan”
Nunes also downplayed the departure of councilor Rubinho Nunes (União Brasil). Rubinho is running for another term in the São Paulo City Council with the list that supports the re-election of the mayor, but has begun to support Pablo Marçal in the Executive of the capital of São Paulo. The current president does not agree with the support of the councilor, saying that he already has “disagreements” with the parliamentarian.
“It’s up to the senators,” Nunes says of Moraes impeachment
Asked about the possibility of Minister Alexandre de Moraes being removed from the FST, Nunes was evasive and said that, in this regard, the Federal Senate should demonstrate. Otherwise, the emebedista assessed, he would have made an “irresponsible” statement for the exercise of his position.
“I am the mayor of the largest city in Latin America. I am fully aware of my responsibility, of what I need and I have to take a stand. As mayor of the city of São Paulo, I will never make irresponsible speeches in the exercise of my office. Those who decide are the senators, none other than the Federal Senate. It is up to the senators to make the assessment,” said the MDB candidate.
Nunes will be present at the Sete de Setembro event on Avenida Paulista, a march that, in previous editions, has included banners with anti-democratic themes, such as requests for military intervention. The mayor called the act “democratic” and said that, for his part, he will not support any slogan against the democratic rule of law.
“If someone raises a banner, I am not embarrassed by what others do. What I have to do is my behavior, which has always been that of someone who has defended democracy,” Nunes said. “I will not raise any banner. I will be there with my yellow shirt to show my love for my homeland, my country, my nation, my staunch defense of democracy and freedom.”
Mayor says there was no “invitation” from Bolsonaro to Marçal
Last week, Jair Bolsonaro posted a video on his social networks in which he stated that all candidates for mayor of São Paulo who were interested in participating in the event could show up on Avenida Paulista. The former president’s message, in effect, frees Pablo Marçal’s presence at the march.
For the mayor, however, Jair Bolsonaro’s statement did not represent an “invitation”. “He absolutely did not make any invitation,” Nunes said, specifying that the former president’s video, in reality, represents a “fair” decision, to reinforce the impartial nature of the act.
Nunes, on Rubinho: ‘His place is there, among the bad people’
Regarding the departure of Rubinho Nunes, who belongs to a party that is part of his supporting coalition, Ricardo Nunes disagrees. “It is something so irrelevant,” said the MDB candidate.
“We have already had some disagreements, in terms of our way of thinking,” the mayor said, noting that he criticized a bill by Rubinho that would have fined anyone who donated food to people in difficult situations a 17,000 reais fine.
“He thinks very differently than me, I think he thinks very much like Pablo. He really has to be there, his place is there, among the people who are bad.”
