Singer details history of assault that inspires music in new autobiographical album
Singer Pocah, known nationally for her career in funk, revealed shocking details of her experience with domestic violence this Tuesday (3/9). In an interview with UOL, the artist said that attacks she suffered in an abusive relationship almost led to her losing her eyesight.
Report of violence
Pocah said he had lived for years in a relationship marked by physical and emotional aggression. “I was screaming that I was blind and that I wanted to go to the hospital. That person took me, but I only heard the others say not to take me, otherwise they would arrest him,” the singer revealed, highlighting the critical moment when he almost lost his sight.
Breakup decision
After this latest attack, Pocah decided she couldn’t continue in that situation. “I said, ‘I can never go back to that house.’ I just wanted my mother and my daughter at that moment. I couldn’t die or raise a child in the middle of that,” said the artist, who also revealed that she had been dealing with deep depression during this time.
Autobiographical album
Pocah’s story of overcoming is told in “Livramento”, one of the songs from her new album, “Cria de Caxias”, which also arrives on music platforms this Tuesday (3) at 9:00 p.m. The music comes with a warning tone. She doesn’t want other women to experience what she experienced. “I would never wish another woman to have the relationships I experienced. No woman deserves to feel robbed, invaded and humiliated… I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize myself”
The album “Cria de Caxias” reflects the different stages of the life of Viviane de Queiroz Pereira, the singer’s real name, addressing both the “beauties and sorrows” of her career. Divided into three acts, the album explores the characters MC Pocahontas, Pocah and Viviane, each representing different moments in their career and personal life.
Rock in Rio Debut
Pocah is also preparing for her debut at Rock in Rio, where she will perform at Espaço Favela on September 20. Regarding this opportunity, the singer expressed her excitement: “For the first time in a big festival, I will take ‘Cria de Caxias’, I feel honored, I’ve waited a long time. I will do justice to my opportunity.”
