Flamengo may be compensated by FIFA and CBF for Pedro’s injury; find out how

The international entity’s program works as an insurance for clubs while athletes defend national teams; The General Law on Sport provides for reimbursement by the Confederation

The injury to Peter, during training from the Brazilian teamIt was another hard blow for Flamengo, who are already suffering from injury problems Michael, Gabigol, Shallot AND Arrascaeta. The club, however, can at least count on compensation, in the case of the number 9 shirt. There are two regulations that provide for this, one in FIFA and another one inside General Sports Lawthat the CBF is presented.

FIFA collaborates with Club Protection Programwhich works as an insurance policy to cover the risk of injury to players while they are engaged in national teams. The institution itself pays the salary of an injured athlete while he cannot train for the club.

The compensation window begins 28 days after the injury, a guarantee that FIFA will not have to pay out for injuries with a recovery time of less than a month.

The General Law on Sports also provides for something similar Article 92which deals with the transfer of athletes. The text provides that the convening sports organization (in this case the CBF) reimburses the club for the expenses incurred during the convocation period.

This interval, however, is defined from the arrival of the athlete in the national team until he is again “able to carry out his activity” at the club. Therefore, the CBF could only stop paying Flamengo’s expenses with Pedro when he returns to training. Both the Confederation and Flamengo have not commented on the payments.

How did Pedro’s injury go in the Brazilian team?

Pedro suffered a sprain on his own during Wednesday’s training. The athlete then underwent a clinical examination and an MRI, which confirmed the injury. He already had the same problem, but in his right knee, in 2018, when he was still playing for Fluminense.

There is no estimate yet of how long Pedro will be out of action. The period for this type of injury, suffered by Neymar and Dudu, in 2023, usually varies from 9 to 12 months, after surgery.

This was Pedro’s first call-up in the Dorival Júnior era of the national team. Just this week he had commented on his return and the need to win again. “Thank God I’m back and I hope to be able to contribute with my teammates to return to winning and on the road to victory,” he said.

Brazil team matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers

João Pedro, from Brighton, was chosen as Dorival’s replacement. He has already been called up by Fernando Diniz for the games against Argentina and Colombia, also in the qualifiers. The striker only played in the 2-1 defeat against the Colombians, coming on in the 27th minute of the first half in place of Vinicius Júnior, who went off injured.

Unveiled by Fluminense, João Pedro is one of Brighton’s stars. Last season he scored 20 goals and provided three assists in 40 appearances for the English club.

Dorival Júnior’s men train at Athetico-PR CT, before the match against Ecuador, in the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. The match will be played at the Couto Pereira stadium, also in the capital of Paraná.

On the 10th the team will play against Paraguay, in Asunción. Until the day before the cast will train in Curitiba. The trip to the Paraguayan capital will take place on Monday the 9th at night. Brazil is sixth in the standings, with seven points, eight less than the leaders Argentina.
