Amazing choice! This director could make a new DC movie after Superman

With James Gunn’s Superman due in theaters on July 9th, what does the future hold for the next DC movies? Here is part of the answer: Luca Guadagnino. An Italian director could adapt the Sergeant Rock comics to the big screen. If this director’s name means nothing to you, he is responsible for the Suspiria remake with Dakota Johnson, Challengers with Zendaya, as well as Bones and All and Call Me By Your Name with Timothée Chalamet.

The information, which is still at the stage of a simple rumor, was spread TheInSneider. The film, set in the World War II era, is supposed to be part of the new DC Universe that James Gunn’s film launched next summer. Challengers screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes is expected to sign the script.

What is Sergeant Rocky?

First published in DC Comics in 1959, Sergeant Frank Rock is not a very well-known character in the superhero world for the simple reason that he is not a superhero. He is at the head of a commando and operates against the Nazis in Europe. The Sergeant Rock comics became famous in the United States for their very crude violence.

Choosing a name like Luca Guadagnino is surprising because the director’s style is the polar opposite of the DC industry. Like Chloe Zhao’s arrival at Marvel, studios have already tried to shake up their superhero blockbusters by bringing in writers who are used to less expensive productions.

Still, Luca Guadagnino’s appearance may be appropriate given the director’s taste for sultry themes and violent imagery seen in Suspiria and Bones And All, among others.

Triumph in Venice

The filmmaker is currently the talk of the town at the Venice Film Festival, where he recently submitted his new feature film, Queer, alongside Daniel Craig, in competition. This film is an adaptation of a story by William Burroughs and tells the story of a homosexual and alcoholic American on his way to Mexico who becomes obsessed with a young man he meets along the way.

After its presentation on September 3, the film received rave reviews from critics. Many mention Daniel Craig’s impressive performance, dreamy direction and many sex scenes. Queer received a standing ovation for nine minutes. The film, at this time, has not been dated in France.

In 2025, Luca Guadagnino will release another new project, After the Hunt, with Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield.
