Brazil doubles with silver and bronze in T37 200m final

Brazilian athletics has brought two athletes to the podium in the final of the 200 meters of the T37 class at the Paris-2024 Paralympic Games. This Saturday (7) morning, the Brazilians Ricardo Mendonça and Christian Gabriel ran at a very high level on the track of the Stade de France and won the silver and bronze medals respectively. In addition to them, Bartolomeu Chaves, the Little Bird, also ran the course excellently and finished in fourth place. The Paralympic title went to Andrei Vdovin.

Three Brazilian finalists and all of them recorded significant scores in the final of the 200 meters T37. Silver medalist Ricardo Mendonça ran the race in 22.71, his best time in 2024. Christian Gabriel won the bronze with 22.74, a personal best for the athlete from Sertãozinho, in Sao Paulo. Finally, Bartolomeu Chaves finished fourth with 23s22, the best time of his career. Russian Vdovin, who competes under the neutral flag, clocked 22.69, the fastest performance of the season.

With the T37 double in the 200 meters, Brazil has reached 73 medals in Paris-2024 and is already experiencing its best season in history at the Paralympic Games, surpassing Rio-2016 and Tokyo-2020, when the country reached the podium 72 times. It was not the first success for Ricardo Mendonça in the edition of the French capital, as he had won gold in the 100 meters T37 with a time of 11.07, a personal best for the Brazilian. In the same race, Christian Gabriel finished fourth, with 11s45.

Good grades, but no medals

In addition to Ricardo Mendonça, Christian Gabriel and Bartolomeu Chaves, Brazil had two more track finals this Saturday morning with Fábio Bordignon and Henrique Caetano, in the 200m T35 class, and Aser Mateus Almeida, in the 100m T36. None of them won a medal, but all of them recorded impressive results in the finals of the Paris-2024 Paralympic Games. Among the three, the one who came closest to the podium was Henrique Caetano, fourth in his race.
