Tonight on Netflix: Not for children under 12, this movie is a remake of a great sci-fi classic

In 1991, Joel Schumacher presented the excellent SF thriller The Forbidden Experiment, directed by Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts and Kevin Bacon. The story of a brilliant medical student who manages to convince some of his classmates to help him induce his own cardiac arrest in order to reach an afterlife that he believes may give him some answers to death, and therefore life.

More than a quarter of a century later, the Danish filmmaker Nils Arden Oplev, to whom we owe the first millennium, as well as the pilot of the series Mr. Robot, signs the forbidden experiment – Flatliners, a remake of this film based on science fiction. Nice cult status. According to producer Peter Safran, the ability to bring “A fantastic European sensibility to this American thriller.”

“The film is a journey into the unknown – the last unknown, one might say”declares Nils Arden Oplev. “It’s very brave to risk your life to explore what’s out there and expect your friends to rise.”

Led by a beloved cast including Elliott Page, Diego Luna and Nina Dobrev, Forbidden Experiment – FlatlinersAn effective SF thriller tinged with dread, rich in suspense and highly disturbing scenes, it has the distinction of having the lead actor of the first film to its credit, in this case. Kiefer SutherlandBut in a secondary and… different role! Another connection between the two feature films: the presence of Michael Douglas as a producer.

It should be noted that the team Forbidden Experiment – Flatliners called on Lindsey Somers, a medical consultant, to ensure that the medical procedures and equipment were as realistic as possible. A whole network of nurses, radiologists, neurologists and neurosurgeons also surrounded the director and screenwriter, but also the casting, during the production.
