This Saturday (7), Bellator traveled to San Diego (USA) to organize another event of its Champions Series. The main duel of the evening was between Usman Nurmagomedov and Alexandr Shabily, two Russians who face each other for the title of the lightweight division.
Cousin of former UFC lightweight champion Khabib, Usman proved once again why his last name is one of the most prestigious and feared in the sport, defeating his compatriot and remaining undefeated in his career.
The fight
The start of the main fight at Bellator San Diego saw Shabily looking to strike and use his right hand well to trouble the champion. Usman, in turn, bet on the usual takedown game of the family, but had some difficulty against a rival who looked to strike more and who did not care to stay in front of his compatriot.
In the second round, the lightweight champion began to fight more on the feet, without deviating from the strategy of fighting on the ground. But he encountered difficulties given the defensive strength of his opponent. In the third round there were few moments of danger, with only a few low kicks from Usman effective.
A good combination from the challenger in the fourth round scared the Bellator champion, but he responded with a high kick, which almost gave him the chance to finish the fight on the ground. The fifth round was very hot and with Shabily taking little risk, although he had to find some chances to win by KO or submission. Thus, Usman Nurmagomedov managed to handle the result and win the fight and retain the belt and his undefeated record in MMA, now 18 wins in 18 fights.
Douglas Lima is overtaken by Canadian
One of Bellator’s biggest names, Douglas Lima represented Brazil at Saturday’s event, where he faced Canadian Aaron Jeffery. The fight was quite difficult for Douglas, who found himself in trouble in the first round after being knocked down by the Canadian, who managed to dominate the Brazilian.
Douglas had some success in striking during the second round, but was quickly neutralized by the Canadian. In the final part of the fight, there was another takedown by Jeffery who punished Douglas with ground and pound until the end to secure the victory.
