This Wednesday, September 11, TF1 begins broadcasting the seventh and final season of The Good Doctor. A burst of episodes that begin with a farewell, as one of the main cast members of the medical series will not be returning. Hill Harper, who has played Dr. Marcus Andrews since its release, really hung up his coat at the end of Season 6.
Why did Hill Harper leave the good doctor?
In March 2023, Hill Harper announced his intention to run for Michigan State Senator. This news greatly alarmed fans at the time, as his run in politics would surely affect his future in the medical series. And we have to believe they were right, because a few months later, TVLine announced that the actor would not be returning for Season 7.
“Hill Harper is convinced that there is a crisis in American democracy – too often government works only for the rich and powerful, and the rest must fight to have their voices heard.,” a spokesperson for Hill Harper’s campaign explained to TVLine.
“Hill is working full-time to fix this situation, and he is running for the US Senate as an activist to give working people a better voice in Congress.“
How to explain the departure of the actor?
Hill Harper appeared for the last time in the season 6 finale of The Good Doctor. Dr. Andrews has made the decision to step down as president of St. Bonaventure Hospital.
The first episode of Season 7, which aired this Wednesday night on TF1, however, lets us know that the Doctor didn’t just leave the facility. It actually changed continents. During the conversation, viewers discover that he settled in Spain, and so he started anew far from San Jose.
