It promises to be an event series later this year! Cat’s Eyes, a live-action adaptation of the famous manga of the same name, will be released on TF1 very soon.
After the tantalizing trailer released last July, fans of the La Rochelle Arts Festival, which takes place from September 10 to 15, had the chance this Thursday, September 12, to discover the first two episodes of the series starring Camille Lou, Constance Labe. and Claire Romain.
We’ve been eagerly waiting to discover the first episodes of Cat’s Eyes for months now. And the least we can say is that we are not disappointed.
The Chamadi sisters are in action
Cat’s Eyes follows the fate of three sisters, Celia (Constance Labe), tam (Camille Lou) and Alexia (Claire Romain), when they find themselves in Paris after months apart. A union which, however, is not trivial.
Tam indeed discovers that a work belonging to their father, who died twelve years earlier in a mysterious fire at his art gallery, has reappeared during a prestigious exhibition at the Eiffel Tower.
To him, no doubt, this is proof that their father was killed. Tammy then convinces her two sisters to risk everything to steal her away in hopes of finally finding out what happened to her.
Unfortunately, the budding thieves very quickly find themselves in the hands of Quentin Chappuis (Mohamed Belkiri), Tami’s ex, who is now in the police force.
Ambitious fiction that lives up to expectations
TF1 has been working on offering premium series for several years now, and this adaptation of Tsukasa Hōjō’s manga is the result of that hard work. Directed by Alexandre Laurent, who notably worked on Le Bazar de la Charité and Les Combattantes, and written by Michel Katz, Cat’s Eyes largely lives up to its ambitions.
Stunts and stunts follow one another at a frenzied pace, all set to carefully selected music and set by Alexandre Laurent’s camera.
The production actually stopped the cat’s-eye shots as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and even the Palace of Versailles served as an adventure for our three heroes. And there’s no denying that the night shots of the City of Light are breathtaking.
As for the casting, Camille Lou, Constance Labe and Claire Romain share a very good chemistry. Seeing the three actresses’ responses to each other, one would almost suspect that they are not actually sisters.
On the other hand, Mohamed Belkhir, known to The Voice viewers as MB14, is also excellent in the role of Quentin. He manages to bring a great deal of sensitivity to this murderous cop, and proves all of his acting talent here, two years after his acting debut in The Tenor alongside Michel LaRocque.
While Cat’s Eyes has some of the scriptural weaknesses that come with action comedies, the series remains of unmatched quality and nothing to envy of derivatives on streaming platforms. And after only watching two episodes, we can’t wait to see what happens next!
Cat’s Eyes is coming to TF1 very soon. For more nostalgia, the entire Japanese anime Signé Cat’s Eyes is now available for free on the TF1+ platform.
