Influ and Madureira take a stand after racism accusations

Arthur, a player from the Fluminense academy, would have called the athlete from Madureira and the ball boy “slaves”

Fluminense issued an official statement, Saturday night (14), taking a position on the Arthur case. The club stated that it fights against any racist attitude. Tricolor, in fact, stated that it is alongside the authorities in the investigation. However, the flu has not announced any measures against the athlete.

“Fluminense is closely following the case of the athlete Arthur and informs that it has made itself available to the authorities to fully clarify the facts. The club reinforces its vehement position against racism and reiterates its tireless fight against all types of prejudice in football and in society in general”, the club informed.

Understanding the case:

An accusation of racial insult occurred during the match between Madureira and Fluminense, for the Under 20 Championship in Rio, this Saturday (14/9), in Conselheiro Galvão, home of Tricolor Suburbano. After all, during the match, a ball boy and a player from Madureira, midfielder Edilson, said that Arthur, a base player for the flu, called them both slaves. The match continued until the end and ended 1-1.

But it was only before the referee declared the match over that the home team players attacked Arthur, waiting for the police to arrive. The flu-ridden player was taken to the 29th police station, also in Madureira, to file a complaint.

Edilson explained: “He called the ball boy a slave. So I went and framed him, saying that was not the case. Then he said, ‘You are all slaves,'” he said.

Madureira, in fact, has also taken a position on social media:

“Madureira Esporte Clube vehemently repudiates any racist act, anywhere and by anyone. It is unacceptable that in current times we still have to face deplorable situations like the one that happened today in Conselheiro Galvão.

Madureira offers all solidarity and supports the employee Jeferson and the athlete Edilson.”
