Ryan Gosling, who is expected to star in Netflix’s The Gray Man, has denied that Marvel has contacted Nova for the film. But he already knows which superhero he wants to play.
Like Chris Evans, who he’ll answer and take a few shots at in The Gray Man, out July 22 on Netflix, will Ryan Gosling take a detour from the Marvel Cinematic Universe? A few days ago, insiders reported that the actor was in talks with Maison des Idées to portray the superhero Richard Ryder, aka Nova, an Earthling who received powers (superhuman strength, flight, etc.) thanks to an alien. And who is particularly associated with Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics.
As is often the case, the rumor turned out to be false and it was the main stakeholder who denied it in an interview. MTV. But he’s not closing the door, far from it, as he’s also revealed the superhero he’d like to play on film: Ghost Rider.
Unlike Nova, the character has already appeared on the small and big screen. First in two Nicolas Cage feature films, in 2007 and 2012. Next in Agents of SHIELD Season 4, in the form of Gabriel Luna. And each actor played a different version of the character, as the first one was Johnny Blaze and the second one was Ronnie Reyes.
Currently, there are no official plans for the demon biker who sold his soul to the devil. But it would be surprising if he wasn’t part of Marvel’s plans to bring back Blade, Fantastic 4 or the X-Men to integrate them into the MCU. It remains to be seen if Ryan Gosling’s foot call will help him get the project off the ground. And maybe the Russo brothers, who recently cast him in The Gray Man , can work in that direction.
