The founder of Arte Popolare would have also subjected a woman to degrading and scatological situations
Singer Leandro Lehart was sentenced to prison on charges of rape and false imprisonment. The artist’s defense attempted to appeal to overturn the decision, but the document was denied by the Court of Justice of São Paulo. The information is from columnist Rogério Gentile.
According to the indictment, Lehart raped a woman with whom he had been in a relationship for two years, as well as keeping her locked in the bathroom of his residence. The crimes allegedly occurred in mid-2019, when the singer also subjected the victim to degrading and scatological situations. He denies all the charges.
After being convicted in the first instance, in 2022, Lehart released a statement in which he said he was “the victim of a great injustice”. At the time, the founder of the Arte Popolare group assured that “the truth will prevail”, since “there have been 40 years of career and 50 years of life believing in Justice and, even if late, it does not fail. And evil will never prevail”
The judges, however, largely rejected the appeal filed by Lehart’s defense, maintaining the prison sentence. The artist received only one favorable vote, from a judge who found there was insufficient evidence to decide.
Leandro Lehart’s defense can still file a new appeal to the Superior Court of Justice, in the third degree.
