The company claims that technical issues have led to the platform’s resumption and that the social network will soon become inaccessible again
The social network Xformerly Twitter, announced on Wednesday 18th the temporary restoration of the platform’s service Brazil was “inadvertent” and occurred due to a technical glitch. A switch in network providers “resulted in a temporary and involuntary restoration of service for Brazilian users,” X wrote on his Global Government Affairs account, adding that he expects the platform to become inaccessible again in the country “soon.”
The social network became partially available again to Brazilian users this Wednesday, after being suspended on August 30 by decision of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) due to judicial failures.
Before the company’s statement, the Brazilian Association of Internet and Telecommunications Providers (Abrint), which represents the sector, had already expressed its opinion on the resumption of the platform’s services, stating that the strategy used to circumvent the STF’s decision was the adoption of dynamic IP addresses provided by the platform. Cloudflarea cloud reverse proxy service that acts as an intermediary between users and X.
By adopting Cloudfare, X gained access to a network of dynamic IPs that are constantly changingmaking it much more difficult for ISPs to block it as the IPs used by the app are now shared with other legitimate services, such as banks and large platforms, which also use Cloudfare.
The suspension of the platform was a decision taken by the minister Alexander de Moraes motivated by the refusal of Elon Muskbillionaire owner of the social network, in blocking accounts linked to investigations into anti-democratic acts and digital militias, in addition to the closure of the X office in Brazil and the absence of a legal representative of the company in the country.
Moraes imposed a daily fine of R$ 50,000 for anyone who uses any technological trick to access the social network and has notified Anatel to request that the Internet operators block the platform.
Now the minister must issue a new decision against X, for circumventing the court order. Moraes is waiting for the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) to send his office technical information on the use of dynamic IP. / With information from AFP
