The second season of The Rings of Power takes place several millennia before the plot of The Lord of the Rings. However, iconic characters from the trilogy appear in this prequel, including the elves due to their immortality. This is especially true of Galadriel, but also of Elrond.
In The Lord of the Rings, Galadriel appears as an elf with mystical powers. He greets the members of the Fellowship of the Ring after crossing Moria and rewards each with a precious gift. He will later act as remote support for Frodo.
Elrond and Galadriel, two different paths in the rings of power
Elrond is the lord of the city of Rivendell. It is he who convenes the council that will form the society of the ring. Later, he meets Aragorn to give him Anduril, forged from the fragments of Narsil, the sword of King Elendil that defeated Sauron during the last alliance between men and elves.
In the Rings of Power, Galadriel and Elrond begin to go their separate ways due to differing opinions regarding the use of the Elven Rings, which Celebrimbor forged. This situation is the basis of intense tension between the two characters throughout Season 2.
The absence of this character will greatly affect the consistency of the plot.
But this situation does not mean a complete break between the two characters. Readers of JRR Tolkien’s novels know that family ties will bring the two elves together, as Elrond’s future wife – named Celebrian – is none other than the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn. In The Lord of the Rings, Elrond is Galadriel’s son-in-law (although he is never mentioned as such).
Celeborn and Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings
For reasons still unclear, Galadriel’s husband does not appear in the series, although he was definitely present in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. There is no doubt that the next seasons of the show will answer this mystery, because without Celeborn, there would be no Celebrian, and therefore no Arwen – the daughter of Elrond, whom Aragorn will marry at the end of The Return of the King.
Episodes of The Rings of Power series can be seen every week exclusively on Prime Video.
