What is the order to watch “The Lord of the Rings”?
Below, you can see the list that we have created in the best order to allow you to watch the productions and understand the entire history of the franchise through the films and series. First, we will show the chronological order, that is, according to the events of the saga.
1) The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022-)
The Amazon Prime Original Series, “The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power,” is based on the appendices and writings of JRR Tolkien’s work. It chronicles events from the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before anything that occurred in “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings.”
The narrative shows the rebirth of evil that haunts the forces of good. The protagonists of the plot are Charlie Vickers (from “Palm Beach”) and Morfydd Clark (from “His Dark Materials”).
In the first season we have a few main stories that unfold in parallel. Elves, dwarves (yes, in Tolkien’s universe, the correct plural is dwarves; and no, dwarves), men, orcs and hairy feet are faced with the suspicion of Sauron’s return.
In the second season, the confirmation of the villain’s return causes a series of fragile alliances with important repercussions. The creation of rings for the elves with mithril from the mountains of Khazad-dûm will be followed by the creation of rings for the dwarves and also for men.
2) The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2013)
The Hobbit film series, available on Amazon Prime Video. In the first, Martin Freeman (from “Sherlock”) plays Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who lives peacefully in his burrow until he receives a mission from the wizard Gandalf. In it, he must free the Kingdom of Erebor from the dragon Smaug.
The work is directed by Peter Jackson (from “King Kong”) and is an adaptation of the book of the same name by JRR Tolkien.
3) The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
Directed by Peter Jackson, this sequel to the series features the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, a character who lives with a group of dwarves and Gandalf the Grey. They head to the Lonely Mountain with the intention of recovering the Arken Stone, lost in the treasure guarded by the dragon Smaug.

4) The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)
This film concludes the trilogy “The Hobbit”. The narrative reports the outcome of the trajectory of Bilbo Baggins, who prepares, together with his companions, to face the dragon Smaug and the battle for the control of Erebor.
5) The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
The first film in the saga, is responsible for the rise of the narrative created by JRR Tolkien. The work won four Oscar statuettes in 2002. It was directed by Peter Jackson and told the story of Frodo Baggins, a hobbit who received a mysterious and evil ring from his uncle. In the plot, the object must be destroyed by any means so that Middle Earth is not at risk.

6) The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
The film continues the story, following the story of Frodo and Sam, who head to Mount Doom in Mordor, after the Fellowship of the Ring is disbanded due to the departure of the team. The film is also directed by Peter Jackson.
7) The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Concluding the famous trilogy, the work “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” sees Frodo along with Sam and Gollum trying to complete the quest to destroy the one ring. In the middle of the narrative, the evil Sauron considers launching an attack on Minas Tirith, the capital of Gondor.

The Lord of the Rings: Release Order

In this sequence, the audience will be able to follow the evolution of the productions over time, starting with “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” (2001), which introduces the universe of Middle-earth, and ending with the series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” (2022-), which further expands this universe, exploring the history of the Second Age of Middle-earth.
