Author of the goal in the final minutes of the Maracanã, which gave another victory to the Glorioso, the player did not celebrate; the number 7 shirt explains itself
Despite not celebrating his goal with enthusiasm, out of respect for his former team, striker Luiz Henrique did not hide his happiness after Botafogo’s 1-0 victory over Fluminense. Alongside Gregore, who provided the assist for his goal – already in injury time at the Maracanã -, the player celebrated the goal and the victory, joking with his teammate and explaining why he did not celebrate in the decisive action.
He revealed that he had already thanked Gregore, praising the midfielder and celebrating the victory, which puts Fogão ahead in the Brasileirão. They are six points away from the runner-up Palmeiras.
“I’ve already thanked him. This guy is fantastic, he fights until the end on the pitch. He always helps the team. I have to thank him for that beautiful help there, he just had to push for the goal. Thank God. Everything went well and we got the three points”, said the number 7 as he left the pitch.
He then also explained why he didn’t celebrate the goal, not even in the final minutes of the tense match at the Maracanã.
“There is always respect. It was the club that opened me up to football, so every time I play against them, I will score an own goal, I will never celebrate. I will always respect the institution of Fluminense,” said the player.
Gregore reveals if there was a fault
Later, midfielder Gregore explained the move in question. For him, no foul on Felipe Melo, despite complaints from Fluminense players.
“I don’t think it was, right? The referee who was there didn’t see the foul. I think it was a lot of pressure that we put there, I believed in it until the end and I was happy to give the pass to Luiz so we could get the three points. The classic is always defined in the details and the victory came today at Botafogo”, he celebrated.

After this victory, Botafogo focuses on the Libertadores, as Glorioso’s next match is worth a place in the semifinals of the competition. It is Wednesday (25), against Sao Paulo, at MorumBIS, at 21:30 (Brasilia time). After the 0-0 at home to Nilton Santos, the teams are playing for the win to advance to the stage – another draw leads to penalties.
In the Brasileirão, Botafogo remains the leader, with 56 points, six more than the second leader Palmeiras, who has a game less. The game in question is this Sunday (22), when Verdão will face Vasco, at the Mané Brasília, at 4 pm, in a game that the glorious fans will watch with their hair dryers on.
