‘The Boys 3’ Ending Explained: Could Ryan Turn Bad?

After receiving praise from PETA for one of its most traumatic scenes, “The Boys” wrapped up its third season with plenty of loose ends that warrant a new batch of episodes inspired by Garth Ennis and Darick’s comic Robertson.

During Season 3, the series underwent several changes, some of which were expected from its trailer, such as the powers of Butcher and Hughie or the appearance of Soldier Boy, but others could have disastrous consequences for the protagonists.

Before you begin, keep in mind that there will be character and plot spoilers for the third season of ‘The Boys’, the Amazon Prime Video series.

‘The Boys 3’: season finale explained

In the latest episode of ‘The Boys 3’, Butcher, Soldier Boy and Hughie decide to face the Homelander to defeat him once and for all, while Mother Milk, Frenchie, Kimiko and Starlight try to stop the soldier .

The big surprise of this battle was Queen Maeve, who at the last minute decided to team up with the anti-heroes to defeat the Homelander.

This switch of sides was already seen last season, due to the mistreatment and bullying of the heroine by the leader of The Seven. It was Queen Maeve who gave Butcher the V-24 complex to gain his powers and threatened the Homelander by releasing a video of him abandoning a plane in free fall to his fate.

Because of this, Butcher, Maeve, and Soldier Boy went on the hunt for Homelander, while Mother Milk, Kimiko, and Hughie chased after Soldier Boy to stop him from detonating a powerful bomb. The first team is ready to achieve their goal until at the last moment, Ryan intervenes and saves the Homelander.

In “The Boys” episode 7, it was revealed that Soldier Boy was actually Homelander’s father, something that went deep into the heart of The Seven leader. This news made Homelander kill Black Noir for hiding the truth from him and try to get closer to Ryan to finally have a happy family. Because of Ryan’s heated argument with Butcher, it wasn’t difficult for the boy to come to terms with Homelander as his new father figure.

After saving his father, Ryan was nearly eliminated by Soldier Boy, but this time it was Butcher’s intervention that prevented tragedy.

The fight gets more exciting as the entire team focuses on taking on Soldier Boy while Queen Maeve takes on Homelander alone. During a moment of heroism, Maeve decides to put aside her revenge to drop the bomb on the side of the Vought building, where it detonates, leaving the heroine incapacitated and her survival in doubt.

In the end, the team manages to defeat Soldier Boy, exposing him to the same solution that kept him alive for years and then locking him in a cell.

‘The Boys’: What will happen to Butcher, Homelander, Soldier Boy and Queen Maeve?

As Starlight said in previous episodes, Butcher discovers that the V-24 compound is lethal after 5 or 6 doses. Hughie managed to escape this fate after the fourth installment, but this did not happen with Butcher.

Homelander’s nemesis number one has discovered that he has between 12 and 18 months to live, so it’s possible that the fifth season will also be the last of the series.

Queen Maeve finally got what she wanted, faking her death to escape the Seven and live in peace with her girlfriend. Without her powers, it’s difficult for the heroine to return for the fifth season, but her story could change again.

Meanwhile, Homelander prepares for a new era of The Seven thanks to Vought’s near-total control. At his side is Ryan, his son and guardian, who discovers that thanks to his powers he can do whatever he wants without fear of retribution for his actions. Little Ryan’s vicious look leaves open the possibility that the boy could become the next big villain of the series.
